Students who have Considered Suicide: 12th Graders

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percent of 12th grade high school students who have seriously thought about committing suicide in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 15-24 in the US, and for each death among young people there may be as many as 100 to 200 suicide attempts. Although suicide is complex and can be influenced by many different factors, suicide is preventable. Suicide prevention requires a comprehensive approach that combines multiple strategies to reduce risk and strengthen protective factors at the individual, interpersonal, community, and societal levels. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 988lifeline.org.
