Description

SOURCE pairs high school students with college and graduate student mentors to help research colleges, sign up for entrance exams, write application essays, fill out applications and financial aid forms, apply for scholarships, and transition into college.

Goal / Mission

SOURCE aims to help students from low-income families in the Los Angeles Unified School District to select and apply for college and financial aid.

Results / Accomplishments

SOURCE served 1,000 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District's class of 2007.
Of the students that participated:
* 90% of advisees applied and 84% were accepted to 4- year colleges.
* 78% of advisees applied to California State Universities and 90% of those applicants were accepted.
* 53% of advisees applied to University of California schools and 90% of the applicants were accepted.
* 11% of advisees enrolled in private or out-of-state colleges, including: Amherst, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Claremont McKenna, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Reed, Rice, Stanford, Tufts, Penn, and Yale.
